Within the community of Storyline, we fellowship together with a set of beliefs about our place in this story. These beliefs are central to our identity as followers of Jesus and what we represent within our community of faith.
There is one true and living God, and we live within the framework of His story. The eternal, triune God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence of being.
God as Father reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of human history according to the purposes of His grace. God is Father in truth to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
Christ is the eternal Son of God. In His incarnation as Jesus Christ, He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a life without sin and, through His death on the cross, made provision for the redemption of men from sin. Through His resurrection, He revealed His sovereignty over death, and shared the promise of eternal life with His followers. Christ will return personally and visibly, judging all men in light of their faith in Him.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine. He exalts Christ. He convicts men of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He gives the believer guidance, strength, and hope to navigate the daily challenges of life. He instructs us in how we live in God’s story, how we share God’s story, and how we join God’s story through serving others.
The Bible is the recorded story of God’s interaction with mankind. While it was written by men, it is divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to mankind. It has God as its author, salvation for its end, and truth without error for its matter. Scripture is totally true and trustworthy. It is the standard by which we will weigh our motives, our beliefs, and our conduct. While we often think this story is about us, it is not. It is God’s story and is focused on the redemption that comes through Jesus Christ.
Mankind is the special creation of God, in His own image. He created both male and female as the crowning work of His creation. The story of redemption began unfolding after mankind brought sin into the world through choices of disobedience. Because mankind is God’s creation and Christ died for us, every person of every race possesses dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love.
Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. Salvation begins with our hearts being made new in light of Christ, and our lives being made right before God through the sacrifice of Christ. It continues with our lives being transformed into the likeness of Christ through obedience to God, and life with Christ after we die.
As followers of Jesus, we don’t live alone in God’s story, but we share it with others in discipleship, worship, and service. Storyline is an autonomous, local gathering of believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the Good News. We are governed by the laws of Christ while exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word. As commanded, our goal is to love deeply, sharing His message to the ends of the earth. In our gathering, each member is responsible and accountable to Christ as Lord. Our leadership structure consists of elders, deacons, and ministry leaders.
Storyline believes in and practices believer’s baptism through immersion. While baptism does not save a person, it is an act of obedience for those who have placed their faith in our crucified, buried, and resurrected Savior. It is also symbolic of the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus.
Storyline also celebrates the Lord’s Supper to memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming.
Storyline works with other believers and other churches around the world to love people, serve effectively, and share the Good News. We are an autonomous fellowship of believers, yet we partner with Colorado Baptists and Southern Baptists to carry out the work of the Great Commission.
